8:13 On the second day of the month the family leaders 1  met with 2  Ezra the scribe, together with all the people, the priests, and the Levites, to consider the words of the law.

Nehemiah 13:6

13:6 During all this time I was not in Jerusalem, 5  for in the thirty-second year of King Artaxerxes of Babylon, I had gone back to the king. After some time 6  I had requested leave of the king,

1 tn Heb “the heads of the fathers.”

2 tn Heb “were gathered to”; NAB, NIV “gathered around”; NRSV “came together to.”

3 tc The translation reads with the Lucianic Greek recension and Vulgate הַתְּהִלָה (hattÿhilah, “the praise”) rather than the MT reading הַתְּחִלָּה (hattÿkhillah, “the beginning”).

4 tc The translation reads הוֹלֶכֶת (holekhet, “was proceeding”) rather than the MT הַהוֹלֶכֶת (haholekhet, “the one proceeding”). The MT probably reflects dittography – accidental writing of ה (hey) twice instead of once.
