Micah 2:1

Context
Land Robbers Will Lose their Land

2:1 Those who devise sinful plans are as good as dead, 1

those who dream about doing evil as they lie in bed. 2

As soon as morning dawns they carry out their plans, 3

because they have the power to do so.

Micah 6:8

Context

6:8 He has told you, O man, what is good,

and what the Lord really wants from you: 4

He wants you to 5  promote 6  justice, to be faithful, 7

and to live obediently before 8  your God.

1 tn Heb “Woe to those who plan sin.” The Hebrew term הוֹי (hoy, “woe”; “ah”) was a cry used in mourning the dead.

2 tn Heb “those who do evil upon their beds.”

3 tn Heb “at the light of morning they do it.”

4 sn What the Lord really wants from you. Now the prophet switches roles and answers the hypothetical worshiper’s question. He makes it clear that the Lord desires proper attitudes more than ritual and sacrifice.

5 tn Heb “except.” This statement is actually linked with what precedes, “What does he want from you except….”

6 tn Heb “to do,” in the sense of “promote.”

7 tn Heb “to love faithfulness.”

8 tn Heb “to walk humbly [or perhaps, “carefully”] with.”
