Sending Out the Twelve Apostles

10:1 Jesus 1  called his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits 2  so they could cast them out and heal every kind of disease and sickness. 3 

Matthew 12:24

12:24 But when the Pharisees 4  heard this they said, “He does not cast out demons except by the power of Beelzebul, 5  the ruler 6  of demons!”

13:47 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was cast into the sea that caught all kinds of fish.

2 sn Unclean spirits refers to evil spirits.

3 tn Grk “and every [kind of] sickness.” Here “every” was not repeated in the translation for stylistic reasons.

5 tn Grk “except by Beelzebul.”

sn Beelzebul is another name for Satan. So some people recognized Jesus’ work as supernatural, but called it diabolical.

6 tn Or “prince.”
