Matthew 8:19

Context
8:19 Then 1  an expert in the law 2  came to him and said, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.” 3

Matthew 19:27

Context
19:27 Then Peter said 4  to him, “Look, 5  we have left everything to follow you! 6  What then will there be for us?”

1 tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “then.”

2 tn Or “a scribe.” See the note on the phrase “experts in the law” in 2:4.

3 sn The statement I will follow you wherever you go is an offer to follow Jesus as a disciple, no matter what the cost.

4 tn Grk “Then answering, Peter said.” This construction is somewhat redundant in contemporary English and has been simplified in the translation.

5 sn Peter wants reassurance that the disciples’ response and sacrifice have been noticed.

6 tn Grk “We have left everything and followed you.” Koine Greek often used paratactic structure when hypotactic was implied.
