  O Thou Who by a star didst guide The wise men on their way, Until it came and stood beside The place where Jesus lay. Although by stars Thou dost not lead Thy servants now below, Thy Holy Spirit, when they need, Will show them how to go. As yet we know Thee but in part; But still we trust Thy Word, That blessèd are the pure in heart, For they shall see the Lord. O Savior, give us then Thy grace To make us pure in heart, That we may see Thee face to face Hereafter, as Thou art.

• [Mat 12:40] Come, Ye Faithful, Raise The Strain

  Come, ye faithful, raise the strain of triumphant gladness; God hath brought forth Israel into joy from sadness; Loosed from Pharaoh’s bitter yoke Jacob’s sons and daughters, Led them with unmoistened foot through the Red Sea waters. ’Tis the spring of souls today; Christ has burst His prison, And from three days’ sleep in death as a sun hath risen; All the winter of our sins, long and dark, is flying From His light, to Whom we give laud and praise undying. Now the queen of seasons, bright with the day of splendor, With the royal feast of feasts, comes its joy to render; Comes to glad Jerusalem, who with true affection Welcomes in unwearied strains Jesus’ resurrection. Neither might the gates of death, nor the tomb’s dark portal, Nor the watchers, nor the seal hold Thee as a mortal; But today amidst the twelve Thou didst stand, bestowing That Thy peace which evermore passeth human knowing. “Alleluia!” now we cry to our King immortal, Who, triumphant, burst the bars of the tomb’s dark portal; “Alleluia!” with the Son, God the Father praising, “Alleluia!” yet again to the Spirit raising.

• [Mat 24:30] Once More, O Lord, Thy Sign

  Once more, O Lord, Thy sign shall be Upon the heav’ns displayed, And earth and its inhabitants Be terribly afraid: For not, in weakness clad, Thou com’st, Our woes, our sins to bear, But girt with all Thy Father’s might, His judgment to declare. The terrors of that awful day O who can understand? Or who abide, when Thou in wrath Shall lift Thy holy hand? The earth shall quake, the sea shall roar, The sun in heav’n grow pale; But Thou hast sworn, and wilt not change, Thy faithful shall not fail. Then grant us, Savior, so to pass Our time in trembling here, That when upon the clouds of Heav’n Thy glory shall appear, Uplifting high our joyful heads, In triumph we may rise, And enter, with Thine angel train, Thy palace in the skies.
