• [Mat 26:26] Death Of Jesus Christ, Our Lord, The

  The death of Jesus Christ, our Lord, We celebrate with one accord; It is our comfort in distress, Our heart’s sweet joy and happiness. He blotted out with His own blood The judgment that against us stood; He full atonement for us made, And all our debt He fully paid. That this is now and ever true He gives an earnest ever new: In this His holy supper here We taste His love so sweet, so near. His Word proclaims, and we believe, That in the supper we receive His very body, as He said, His very blood for sinners shed. A precious food is this indeed— It never fails us in our need— A heavenly manna for our soul. Until we safely reach our goal. Oh, blest is each believing guest Who in this promise finds his rest; For Jesus will in love abide With those who do in Him confide. The guest that comes with true intent To turn to God and to repent, To live for Christ, to die to sin, Will thus a holy life begin. They who His Word do not believe This food unworthily receive, Salvation here will never find— May we this warning keep in mind! Help us sincerely to believe That we may worthily receive Thy supper and in Thee find rest. Amen, he who believes is blest.

  Thou Whom my soul admires above All earthly joy and earthly love, Tell me, dear Shepherd, let me know, Where do Thy sweetest pastures grow? Where is the shadow of that rock That from the sun defends Thy flock? Fain would I feed among Thy sheep Among them rest, among them sleep. Why should Thy bride appear like one That turns aside to paths unknown? My constant feet would never rove, Would never seek another love. The footsteps of Thy flock I see; Thy sweetest pastures here they be; A wondrous feast thy love prepares, Bought with Thy wounds, and groans, and tears. • [Mat 27:63] Now The Green Blade Rises

  Now the green blade rises from the buried grain, Wheat that in the dark earth many years has lain; Love lives again, that with the dead has been: Love is come again, like wheat that springs up green. In the grave they laid Him, Love Whom we had slain, Thinking that He’d never wake to life again, Laid in the earth like grain that sleeps unseen: Love is come again, like wheat that springs up green. Up He sprang at Easter, like the risen grain, He that for three days in the grave had lain; Up from the dead my risen Lord is seen: Love is come again, like wheat that springs up green. When our hearts are saddened, grieving or in pain, By Your touch You call us back to life again; Fields of our hearts that dead and bare have been: Love is come again, like wheat that springs up green.

• [Mat 28:11] Come Unto Me

  Hear the blessèd Savior calling the oppressed, “O ye heavy laden, come to Me and rest. Come, no longer tarry, I your load will bear, Bring Me every burden, bring Me every care.” Refrain Come unto Me, I will give you rest; Take My yoke upon you, hear Me and be blessed. I am meek and lowly, come and trust My might. Come, My yoke is easy, and My burden’s light. Are you disappointed, wandering here and there, Dragging chains of doubt and loaded down with care? Do unholy feelings struggle in your breast? Bring your case to Jesus—He will give you rest. Refrain Stumbling on the mountains dark with sin and shame, Stumbling toward the pit of hell’s consuming flame. By the powers of sin deluded and oppressed, Hear the tender Shepherd, “Come to Me and rest.” Refrain Have you by temptation often conquered been, Has a sense of weakness brought distress within?   Come unto Me, when shadows darkly gather, When the sad heart is weary and distressed; Seeking for comfort from your heavenly Father, Come unto Me, and I will give you rest. Ye who have mourned when the spring flowers were taken When the ripe fruit fell richly to the ground, When the loved slept, in brighter homes to waken, Where their pale brows with spirit-wreaths are crowned, Large are the mansions in thy Father’s dwelling; Glad are the homes that sorrows never dim; Sweet are the harps in holy music swelling; Soft are the tones which raise the heavenly hymn. There, like an Eden blossoming in gladness, Bloom the fair flowers the earth too rudely pressed; Come unto Me, all ye who droop in sadness, Come unto Me, and I will give you rest.

  “Come unto Me, ye weary, and I will give you rest.” O blessèd voice of Jesus, which comes to hearts oppressed! It tells of benediction, of pardon, grace and peace, Of joy that hath no ending, of love which cannot cease. “Come unto Me, dear children, and I will give you light.” O loving voice of Jesus, which comes to cheer the night! Our hearts are filled with sadness, and we had lost our way; But He hath brought us gladness and songs at break of day. “Come unto Me, ye fainting, and I will give you life.” O cheering voice of Jesus, which comes to aid our strife! The foe is stern and eager, the fight is fierce and long; But Thou hast made us mighty and stronger than the strong. “And whosoever cometh I will not cast him out.” O welcome voice of Jesus, which drives away our doubt, Which calls us, very sinners, unworthy though we be Of love so free and boundless, to come, dear Lord, to Thee.

  How sweetly flowed the Gospel’s sound From lips of gentleness and grace While listening thousands gathered round, And joy and gladness filled the place! From Heav’n He came, of Heav’n He spoke, To Heaven He led His followers’ way; Dark clouds of gloomy night He broke, Unveiling an immortal day. “Come, wanderers, to My Father’s home; Come, all ye weary ones, and rest.” Yes, sacred Teacher, we will come, Obey Thee, love Thee, and be blest.   I had wandered off from Heaven, On the mountains cold and gray, When I heard my Savior calling, To His lost sheep far away; How I listened as the tear drops Coursed adown like falling rain, While His tender words of promise, Made my spirit glad again. Refrain “Come, oh, come to Me,” said Jesus, Come and I will give you rest, I will take away the burden From the heavy laden breast. No matter who the wand’rer, Nor how far he’s gone astray, Behold, whosoever cometh, I will comfort him today. I was working in the temple With the Savior by my side, Where the multitude assembled, In its misery and pride; Glancing upward from my labor I just caught His distant smile, “You have placed your work between us, Come and talk with Me awhile.” Refrain Many early friends had left me, While the vacant room and chair, Were reminders of the prices I had paid down to be there; I was brooding o’er my losses When the Savior spoke to me, “You have let your sorrows settle, Like a cloud ’tween Me and thee.” Refrain Then I saw at once that Jesus Could be better far than all; He could lighten up the pathway, Could surround me like a wall; He could take the place of loved ones, Wipe the falling tears away, Turn my sorrows into laughter, Change the night-tide into day.   With tearful eyes I look around; Life seems a dark and stormy sea; Yet, midst the gloom, I hear a sound, A heavenly whisper,“Come to Me.” It tells me of a place of rest; It tells me where my soul may flee: O to the weary, faint, oppressed, How sweet the bidding, “Come to Me.” When the poor heart with anguish learns That earthly props resigned must be, And from each broken cistern turns, It hears the accents, “Come to Me.” When against sin I strive in vain, And cannot from its yoke get free, Sinking beneath the heavy chain, The words arrest me, “Come to Me.” When nature shudders, loath to part From all I love, enjoy, and see; When a faint chill steals o’er my heart, A sweet voice utters, “Come to Me.” “Come, for all else must fall and die; Earth is no resting-place for thee; Heavenward direct thy weeping eye, I am thy Portion; come to Me.” O voice of mercy! voice of love!
