Matthew 2:9

[Mat 2:9] Kings Of The East Are Riding, The
The kings of the east are riding
Tonight to Bethlehem;
The sunset glows dividing,
The kings of the east are riding,
A star their journey guiding,
Gleaming with gold and gem.
The kings of the east are riding
Tonight to Bethlehem.To a strange sweet harp of Zion
The starry host troops forth:
The golden-glaived Orion
To a strange sweet harp of Zion,
The Archer and the Lion,
The Watcher of the north:
To a strange sweet harp of Zion
The starry host sweeps forth.There beams above a manger
The child-face of a star;
Amid the stars a stranger,
It beams above a manger,
What means this ether-ranger
To pause where poor folk are?
There beams above a manger
The child-face of a star.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Mat 2:9] Shine On
See the brightly shining star,
As its radiance beams afar,
Guide the feet of weary pilgrims
To the place where Jesus lay.
Like a beacon from its height,
Burning brightly in the night,
As the wise men followed onward,
Safely guided all the way.Refrain
Shine on! shine on!
Beautiful star of light;
Shine on! shine on!
Cheering the gloomy night;
Shine on! shine on!
Sending thy rays afar,
Shine on thro’ the darkness,
Oh, thou fairest star.It is shining still for thee,
With a glory fair to see,
As it leadeth ever upward
To the palace of the King.
So we follow thro’ the night,
Safely guided by its light,
While our hearts respond with gladness
To the song the angels sing.Refrain
So today that star alone
Is the light to lead us on
To the feet of Christ our Savior,
He our Prophet, Priest and King,
As it brightly burns above,
Sentry of the King of love,
While we follow onward, upward
And His praises sweetly sing.Refrain

[Mat 2:9] Shine On, Bethlehem’s Star
O wondrous star of Bethlehem!
That in the heavens bright
Shone forth to guide the pilgrims’ feet,
Unto the Prince of Light,
Shine on thro’ endless ages,
While ringing thro’ the sky;
His loyal ones still hear the song:
“Glory to God on high!”Refrain
Shine on, Bethlehem’s star,
Send thy light afar;
Tell of Jesus’ birth
Till His glory fills the earth.O blessèd star of Bethlehem!
Still gild with heav’nly ray
The pathway to the Holy One
Who comes to us today.
Gleam thro’ the darksome shadows
That fill the heart with fear,
Till weary souls shall see the light,
Knowing that Christ is near.Refrain
O wondrous star of Bethlehem!
Shine on; we too would bring
Our lives a willing sacrifice,
With gladness to the King.
With joy we travel onward,
Encircled by the glow—
The glory of the fadeless Star,
Jesus, whose love we know.Refrain

[Mat 3:11] Lo! From The Desert Homes
Lo! from the desert homes
Where he hath hid so long,
The new Elias comes,
In sternest wisdom strong;
The voice that cries
Of Christ on high,
And judgment nigh
From opening skies.Your God e’en now doth stand
At Heaven’s opening door;
His fan is in His hand,
And He will purge His floor;
The wheat He claims
And with Him stows,
The chaff He throws
To quenchless flames.Ye haughty mountains, bow
Your sky-aspiring heads;
Ye valleys, hiding low,
Lift up your gentle meads;
Make His way plain
Your king before,
For evermore
He comes to reign.May Thy dread voice around,
Thou harbinger of Light,
On our dull ears still sound,
Lest here we sleep in night,
Till judgment come,
And on our path
Shall burst the wrath
And deathless doom.O God, with love’s sweet might,
Who dost anoint and arm
Christ’s soldier for the fight,
With grace that shields from harm,
Thrice blessèd Three
Heav’n’s endless days
Shall sing Thy praise
Eternally.Play source: Cyberhymnal

[Mat 3:16] Come Holy Spirit, Dove Divine (hickok)
Come, Holy Spirit, Dove divine,
Display Thy glorious grace;
Unfold the truth, that it may shine,
And show the Savior’s face.
Dark error’s cloud from us remove,
Which intercepts the light;
And give us wisdom still to prove
God’s way alone is right.Touch our dull ears with healing power,
That we the Lord may hear,
And in this glad, this holy hour,
May yield Him perfect fear.
Within us let His image grow,
His will our wills control,
Nor other master let us know
Of life, or heart, or soul.Make Thou the path of duty plain,
Nor from it let us stray;
And more may we Christ’s Spirit gain,
In service, day by day;
That we our mission may fulfill,
Our faithful witness give,
And seeking ever but His will,
May to His glory live.Come, Holy Spirit, come, O come!
Perform Thy work of grace;
Make our poor hearts Thine honored home,
Thy chosen dwelling place.
And kindle there love’s heavenly fire,
A purifying flame,
Consuming every wrong desire,
And purging sin’s deep shame.source: Cyberhymnal -
[Mat 3:16] Come, Holy Spirit, Dove Divine (judson)
Come, Holy Spirit, Dove divine,
On these baptismal waters shine,
And teach our hearts, in highest strain,
To praise the Lamb for sinners slain.We love Your Name, we love Your laws,
And joyfully embrace Your cause;
We love Your cross, the shame, the pain,
O Lamb of God, for sinners slain.We sink beneath the water’s face,
And thank You for Your saving grace;
We die to sin and seek a grave
With You, beneath the yielding wave.And as we rise with You to live,
O let the Holy Spirit give
The sealing unction from above,
The joy of life, the fire of love.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Mat 3:16] Holy Ghost, Come Down Upon Thy Children
Refrain
Holy Ghost, come down upon Thy children,
Give us grace and make us Thine;
Thy tender fires within us kindle,
Blessèd Spirit, Dove divine.For all within us good and holy
Is from Thee, Thy precious gift;
In all our joys, in all our sorrows,
Wistful hearts to Thee we lift.Refrain
For Thou to us art more than Father,
More than sister, in Thy love,
So gentle, patient, and forbearing,
Holy Spirit, heavenly Dove.Refrain
O we have grieved Thee, gracious Spirit!
Wayward, wanton, cold are we;
And still our sins, new every morning,
Never yet have wearied Thee.Refrain
Ah! Sweet Consoler, though we cannot
Love Thee as Thou lovest us,
Yet if Thou deign’st our hearts to kindle
They will not be always thus.Refrain
With hearts so vile how dare we venture,
King of kings, to love Thee so?
And how canst Thou, with such compassion,
Bear so long with things so low?Refrain

[Mat 3:16] Son Of Man From Jordan Rose, The
The Son of Man from Jordan rose,
And prayed to God above;
When lo, the opening heav’ns disclose
A swift descending Dove.The Spirit, lighting on His brow,
Anoints the Holy One;
The Father’s voice declaring, “Thou
Art My belovèd Son.”So when, through His baptizing blessed
The Font new birth conveys,
Man kneels a son of God confessed,
Heav’n opens as he prays.Fair innocency, like the dove’s,
Invests him, purged from sin;
For God the brooding Spirit moves,
Directs and rules within.O Christ, whose mercy cleansed our stain
With streams of grace divine,
Let us not soil the robes again
Made white in blood of Thine.Redeemer of a world undone,
We praise Thee and adore,
Jesu, with God the Father One,
And Spirit evermore.Play source: Cyberhymnal
Matthew 27:29

[Mat 27:29] O Sacred Head, Now Wounded
O sacred Head, now wounded, with grief and shame weighed down,
Now scornfully surrounded with thorns, Thine only crown;
O sacred Head, what glory, what bliss till now was Thine!
Yet, though despised and gory, I joy to call Thee mine.What Thou, my Lord, hast suffered, was all for sinners’ gain;
Mine, mine was the transgression, but Thine the deadly pain.
Lo, here I fall, my Savior! ’Tis I deserve Thy place;
Look on me with Thy favor, vouchsafe to me Thy grace.Men mock and taunt and jeer Thee, Thou noble countenance,
Though mighty worlds shall fear Thee and flee before Thy glance.
How art thou pale with anguish, with sore abuse and scorn!
How doth Thy visage languish that once was bright as morn!Now from Thy cheeks has vanished their color once so fair;
From Thy red lips is banished the splendor that was there.
Grim death, with cruel rigor, hath robbed Thee of Thy life;
Thus Thou hast lost Thy vigor, Thy strength in this sad strife.My burden in Thy Passion, Lord, Thou hast borne for me,
For it was my transgression which brought this woe on Thee.
I cast me down before Thee, wrath were my rightful lot;
Have mercy, I implore Thee; Redeemer, spurn me not!What language shall I borrow to thank Thee, dearest friend,
For this Thy dying sorrow, Thy pity without end?
O make me Thine forever, and should I fainting be,
Lord, let me never, never outlive my love to Thee.My Shepherd, now receive me; my Guardian, own me Thine.
Great blessings Thou didst give me, O source of gifts divine.
Thy lips have often fed me with words of truth and love;
Thy Spirit oft hath led me to heavenly joys above.Here I will stand beside Thee, from Thee I will not part;
O Savior, do not chide me! When breaks Thy loving heart,
When soul and body languish in death’s cold, cruel grasp,
Then, in Thy deepest anguish, Thee in mine arms I’ll clasp.The joy can never be spoken, above all joys beside,
When in Thy body broken I thus with safety hide.
O Lord of Life, desiring Thy glory now to see,
Beside Thy cross expiring, I’d breathe my soul to Thee.My Savior, be Thou near me when death is at my door;
Then let Thy presence cheer me, forsake me nevermore!
When soul and body languish, oh, leave me not alone,
But take away mine anguish by virtue of Thine own!Be Thou my consolation, my shield when I must die;
Remind me of Thy passion when my last hour draws nigh.
Mine eyes shall then behold Thee, upon Thy cross shall dwell,
My heart by faith enfolds Thee. Who dieth thus dies well.Play source: Cyberhymnal
