24:22 And if those days had not been cut short, no one would be saved. But for the sake of the elect those days will be cut short.

2 tn Grk “For I tell.” Here an explanatory γάρ (gar) has not been translated.

3 tn Grk “Truly (ἀμήν, amhn), I say to you.”

4 tn Grk “Not one iota or one serif.”

sn The smallest letter refers to the smallest Hebrew letter (yod) and the stroke of a letter to a serif (a hook or projection on a Hebrew letter).

5 tn Grk “began to rebuke him, saying.” The participle λέγων (legwn) is redundant in English and has not been translated.

6 tn Grk “Merciful to you.” A highly elliptical expression: “May God be merciful to you in sparing you from having to undergo [some experience]” (L&N 88.78). A contemporary English equivalent is “God forbid!”
