The Visit of the Wise Men

2:1 After Jesus was born in Bethlehem¹ in Judea, in the time² of King Herod,³ wise men⁴ from the East came to Jerusalem⁵

7:24 “Everyone⁶ who hears these words of mine and does them is like⁷ a wise man⁸ who built his house on rock.

²tn Grk “in the days.”

³sn King Herod was Herod the Great, who ruled Palestine from 37 b.c. until he died in 4 b.c. He was known for his extensive building projects (including the temple in Jerusalem) and for his cruelty.

⁴sn The Greek term magi here describes a class of wise men and priests who were astrologers (L&N 32.40).

⁶tn Grk “Therefore everyone.” Here οὖν (oun) has not been translated.

⁷tn Grk “will be like.” The same phrase occurs in v. 26.

⁸tn Here and in v. 26 the Greek text reads ἀνήρ (anhr), while the parallel account in Luke 6:47-49 uses ἄνθρωπος (anqrwpo") in vv. 48 and 49.

displaying	set the max displaying in one page.	"20" will set displaying max to 20 per page
range	set searching range	"All Bible", "Old Testament", "New Testament"
