Matthew 16:3

Context
16:3 and in the morning, ‘It will be stormy today, because the sky is red and darkening.’ 1  You know how to judge correctly the appearance of the sky, 2  but you cannot evaluate the signs of the times.

Matthew 16:2

Context
16:2 He 3  said, “When evening comes you say, ‘It will be fair weather, because the sky is red,’

Matthew 8:20

Context
8:20 Jesus said to him, “Foxes have dens, and the birds in the sky 4  have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.” 5

1 tn Or “red and gloomy” (L&N 14.56).

2 tn Grk “The face of the sky you know how to discern.”

3 tn Grk “But answering, he said to them.” The construction has been simplified in the translation and δέ (de) has not been translated.

4 tn Grk “the birds of the sky” or “the birds of the heaven”; the Greek word οὐρανός (ouranos) may be translated either “sky” or “heaven,” depending on the context. The idiomatic expression “birds of the sky” refers to wild birds as opposed to domesticated fowl (cf. BDAG 809 s.v. πετεινόν).

5 sn Jesus’ reply is simply this: Does the man understand the rejection he will be facing? Jesus has no home in the world (the Son of Man has no place to lay his head).
