• [Mar 6:31] Come Ye Yourselves Apart

  Come ye yourselves apart and rest awhile; Weary, I know it, of the press and throng, Wipe from your brow the sweat and dust of toil, And in My quiet strength again be strong. Come ye aside from all the world holds dear, For converse which the world has never known, Alone with Me and with My Father here, With Me and with My Father not alone. Come, tell Me all that ye have said and done, Your victories and failures, hopes and fears. I know how hardly souls are wooed and won: My choicest wreaths are always wet with tears. Come ye and rest: the journey is too great, And ye will faint beside the way and sink: The Bread of Life is here for you to eat, And here for you the Wine of Love to drink. Then, fresh from converse with your Lord, return And work till daylight softens into ev’n; The brief hours are not lost in which ye learn More of your Master and His rest in Heav’n.

He Who, a little Child, began The life divine to show to man, Proclaims from Heav’n the message free; “Let little children come to Me.” We bring them, Lord, and with the sign Of sprinkled water name them Thine; Their souls with saving grace endow; Baptize them with Thy Spirit now. O give Thine angels charge, good Lord, Them safely in Thy way to guard; Thy blessing on their lives command, And write their names upon Thy hand.   O Lord, the holy innocents Laid down for Thee their infant life, And martyrs brave and patient saints Have stood for Thee in fire and strife. We wear the cross they wore of old Our lips have learned like vows to make; We need not die; we cannot fight; What may we do for Jesus’ sake? O day by day each Christian child Has much to do, without, within; A death to die for Jesus’ sake, A weary war to wage with sin. When deep within our swelling hearts The thoughts of pride and anger rise, When bitter words are on our tongues, And tears of passion in our eyes. Then we may stay the angry blow, Then we may check the hasty word, Give gentle answers back again, And fight a battle for our Lord. With smiles of peace and looks of love, Light in our dwellings we may make, Bid kind good humor brighten there, And still do all for Jesus’ sake. There’s not a child so weak and small But has his little cross to take, His little work of love and praise, That he may do for Jesus’ sake.

  The wise may bring their learning, the rich may bring their wealth, And some may bring their greatness, and some bring strength and health; We, too, would bring our treasures to offer to the King; We have no wealth or learning; what shall we children bring? We’ll bring Him hearts that love Him; we’ll bring Him thankful praise, And young souls meekly striving to walk in holy ways; And these shall be the treasures we offer to the King, And these are gifts that even the poorest child may bring. We’ll bring the little duties we have to do each day; We’ll try our best to please Him, at home, at school, at play; And better are these treasures to offer to our King; Than richest gifts without them—yet these a child may bring.
