Mark 10:21
Context10:21 As Jesus looked at him, he felt love for him and said, “You lack one thing. Go, sell whatever you have and give the money 1 to the poor, and you will have treasure 2 in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
Mark 10:38

Mark 11:2
Context11:2 and said to them, “Go to the village ahead of you. 4 As soon as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there that has never been ridden. 5 Untie it and bring it here.
Mark 13:9
Context13:9 “You must watch out for yourselves. You will be handed over 6 to councils 7 and beaten in the synagogues. 8 You will stand before governors and kings 9 because of me, as a witness to them.
1 tn The words “the money” are not in the Greek text, but are implied. Direct objects were often omitted in Greek when clear from the context.
2 sn The call for sacrifice comes with a promise of eternal reward: You will have treasure in heaven. Jesus’ call is a test to see how responsive the man is to God’s direction through him. Will he walk the path God’s agent calls him to walk? For a rich person who got it right, see Zacchaeus in Luke 19:1-10.
3 tn Grk “baptism I am baptized with.” This same change has been made in v. 39.
4 tn Grk “the village lying before you” (BDAG 530 s.v. κατέναντι 2.b).
5 tn Grk “a colt tied there on which no one of men has ever sat.”
6 tn Grk “They will hand you over.” “They” is an indefinite plural, referring to people in general. The parallel in Matt 10:17 makes this explicit.
7 sn Councils in this context refers to local judicial bodies attached to the Jewish synagogue. This group would be responsible for meting out justice and discipline within the Jewish community.
8 sn See the note on synagogue in 1:21.
9 sn These statements look at persecution both from a Jewish context as the mention of councils and synagogues suggests, and from a Gentile one as the reference to governors and kings suggests. Some fulfillment of Jewish persecution can be seen in Acts.
