Luke 7:43

Context
7:43 Simon answered, 1  “I suppose the one who had the bigger debt canceled.” 2  Jesus 3  said to him, “You have judged rightly.”

Luke 12:18

Context
12:18 Then 4  he said, ‘I 5  will do this: I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods.

1 tn Grk “answering, said.” This is redundant in contemporary English and has been simplified to “answered.”

2 tn Grk “the one to whom he forgave more” (see v. 42).

3 tn Grk “He”; the referent (Jesus) has been specified in the translation for clarity. Here δέ (de) has not been translated.

4 tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “then” to indicate the implied sequence of events within the narrative.

5 sn Note how often the first person pronoun is present in these verses. The farmer is totally self absorbed.
