Luke 7:42

Context
7:42 When they could not pay, he canceled 1  the debts of both. Now which of them will love him more?”

Luke 7:48

Context
7:48 Then 2  Jesus 3  said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.” 4

1 tn The verb ἐχαρίσατο (ecarisato) could be translated as “forgave.” Of course this pictures the forgiveness of God’s grace, which is not earned but bestowed with faith (see v. 49).

2 tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “then” to indicate the implied sequence of events within the narrative.

3 tn Grk “he”; the referent (Jesus) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

4 sn Jesus showed his authority to forgive sins, something that was quite controversial. See Luke 5:17-26 and the next verse.
