Luke 5:9

Context
5:9 For 1  Peter 2  and all who were with him were astonished 3  at the catch of fish that they had taken,

Luke 9:20

Context
9:20 Then 4  he said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter 5  answered, 6  “The Christ 7  of God.”

1 sn An explanatory conjunction (For) makes it clear that Peter’s exclamation is the result of a surprising set of events. He speaks, but the others feel similarly.

2 tn Grk “he”; the referent (Peter) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

3 sn In the Greek text, this term is in an emphatic position.

4 tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “then” to indicate the implied sequence of events within the narrative.

5 tn Here δέ (de) has not been translated.

6 tn Grk “Peter answering, said.” This is redundant in contemporary English and has been simplified to “Peter answered.”

7 tn Or “Messiah”; both “Christ” (Greek) and “Messiah” (Hebrew and Aramaic) mean “one who has been anointed.”

sn See the note on Christ in 2:11.
