Luke 5:7

Context
5:7 So 1  they motioned 2  to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both boats, so that they were about to sink. 3

Luke 16:26

Context
16:26 Besides all this, 4  a great chasm 5  has been fixed between us, 6  so that those who want to cross over from here to you cannot do so, and no one can cross from there to us.’

1 tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “so” to indicate consequential nature of the action.

2 tn That is, “they signaled by making gestures” (L&N 33.485).

3 tn This infinitive conveys the idea that the boats were at the point of sinking.

4 tn Grk “And in all these things.” There is no way Lazarus could carry out this request even if divine justice were not involved.

5 sn The great chasm between heaven and hell is impassable forever. The rich man’s former status meant nothing now.

6 tn Grk “between us and you.”
