Luke 2:18

Context
2:18 and all who heard it were astonished 1  at what the shepherds said.

Luke 12:34

Context
12:34 For where your treasure 2  is, there your heart will be also.

Luke 24:11

Context
24:11 But these words seemed like pure nonsense 3  to them, and they did not believe them.

1 tn Grk “marveled.” It is a hard word to translate with one term in this context. There is a mixture of amazement and pondering at work in considering the surprising events here. See Luke 1:21, 63; 2:33.

2 sn Seeking heavenly treasure means serving others and honoring God by doing so; see Luke 6:35-36.

3 sn The term pure nonsense can describe idle talk or a tale. The point is important, since the disciples reacted with disbelief that a resurrection was possible. Sometimes it is thought the ancients were gullible enough to believe anything. But these disciples needed convincing about the resurrection.
