Luke 12:7

Context
12:7 In fact, even the hairs on your head are all numbered. Do not be afraid; 1  you are more valuable than many sparrows.

Luke 12:24

Context
12:24 Consider the ravens: 2  They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn, yet God feeds 3  them. How much more valuable are you than the birds!

Luke 13:2

Context
13:2 He 4  answered them, “Do you think these Galileans were worse sinners 5  than all the other Galileans, because they suffered these things?

Luke 16:17

Context
16:17 But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one tiny stroke of a letter 6  in the law to become void. 7

1 sn Do not be afraid. One should respect and show reverence to God (v. 5), but need not fear his tender care.

2 tn Or “crows.” Crows and ravens belong to the same family of birds. English uses “crow” as a general word for the family. Palestine has several indigenous members of the crow family.

3 tn Or “God gives them food to eat.” L&N 23.6 has both “to provide food for” and “to give food to someone to eat.”

4 tn Grk “And he.” Here καί (kai) has been translated as “now” to indicate the transition to a new topic.

5 sn Jesus did not want his hearers to think that tragedy was necessarily a judgment on these people because they were worse sinners.

6 tn Or “one small part of a letter” (L&N 33.37).

7 tn Grk “to fall”; that is, “to drop out of the text.” Jesus’ point may be that the law is going to reach its goal without fail, in that the era of the promised kingdom comes.
