Luke 1:45

Context
1:45 And blessed 1  is she who believed that 2  what was spoken to her by 3  the Lord would be fulfilled.” 4

Luke 24:25

Context
24:25 So 5  he said to them, “You 6  foolish people 7  – how slow of heart 8  to believe 9  all that the prophets have spoken!

1 sn Again the note of being blessed makes the key point of the passage about believing God.

2 tn This ὅτι (Joti) clause, technically indirect discourse after πιστεύω (pisteuw), explains the content of the faith, a belief in God’s promise coming to pass.

3 tn That is, “what was said to her (by the angel) at the Lord’s command” (BDAG 756 s.v. παρά A.2).

4 tn Grk “that there would be a fulfillment of what was said to her from the Lord.”

sn This term speaks of completion of something planned (2 Chr 29:35).

5 tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “so” to indicate the implied result of the disciples’ inability to believe in Jesus’ resurrection.

6 tn Grk “O,” an interjection used both in address and emotion (BDAG 1101 s.v. 1).

7 tn The word “people” is not in the Greek text, but is supplied to complete the interjection.

8 sn The rebuke is for failure to believe the promise of scripture, a theme that will appear in vv. 43-47 as well.

9 tn On the syntax of this infinitival construction, see BDAG 364-65 s.v. ἐπί 6.b.
