Joshua 7:26

Context
7:26 Then they erected over him a large pile of stones (it remains to this very day 1 ) and the Lord’s anger subsided. So that place is called the Valley of Disaster to this very day.

Joshua 10:12

Context

10:12 The day the Lord delivered the Amorites over to the Israelites, Joshua prayed to the Lord before Israel: 2

“O sun, stand still over Gibeon!

O moon, over the Valley of Aijalon!”

Joshua 11:8

Context
11:8 The Lord handed them over to Israel and they struck them down and chased them all the way to Greater Sidon, 3  Misrephoth Maim, 4  and the Mizpah Valley to the east. They struck them down until no survivors remained.

Joshua 11:17

Context
11:17 from Mount Halak on up to Seir, as far as Baal Gad in the Lebanon Valley below Mount Hermon. He captured all their kings and executed them. 5

Joshua 13:27

Context
13:27 It included the valley of Beth Haram, 6  Beth Nimrah, Succoth, and Zaphon, and the rest of the realm of King Sihon of Heshbon, the area east of the Jordan to the end of the Sea of Kinnereth. 7

1 tc Heb “to this day.” The phrase “to this day” is omitted in the LXX and may represent a later scribal addition.

2 tn Heb “Then Joshua spoke to the Lord in the day the Lord placed the Amorites before the sons of Israel and he said in the eyes of Israel.” It is uncertain whether the phrase “before the sons of Israel” modifies the verb “placed” (as in the present translation, “delivered the Amorites over to the Israelites”) or the verb “spoke” (“Joshua spoke to the Lord before the sons of Israel in the day the Lord delivered over the Amorites”).

3 map For location see Map1 A1; JP3 F3; JP4 F3.

4 tn The meaning of the Hebrew name “Misrephoth Maim” is perhaps “lime-kilns by the water” (see HALOT 2:641).

5 tn Heb “and struck them down and killed them.”

6 tn Or “it included in the valley, Beth Haram.”

7 sn The Sea of Kinnereth is another name for the Sea of Galilee. See the note on the word “Kinnereth” in 11:2.
