Context4:8 The Israelites did just as Joshua commanded. They picked up twelve stones, according to the number of the Israelite tribes, from the middle of the Jordan as the Lord had instructed Joshua. They carried them over with them to the camp and put them there.
Joshua 5:1
Context5:1 When all the Amorite kings on the west side of the Jordan and all the Canaanite kings along the seacoast heard how the Lord had dried up the water of the Jordan before the Israelites while they 1 crossed, they lost their courage and could not even breathe for fear of the Israelites. 2
Joshua 8:20
Context8:20 When the men of Ai turned around, they saw 3 the smoke from the city ascending into the sky and were so shocked they were unable to flee in any direction. 4 In the meantime the men who were retreating to the desert turned against their pursuers.
Joshua 10:11
Context10:11 As they fled from Israel on the slope leading down from 5 Beth Horon, the Lord threw down on them large hailstones from the sky, 6 all the way to Azekah. They died – in fact, more died from the hailstones than the Israelites killed with the sword.
Joshua 10:24
Context10:24 When they brought the kings out to Joshua, he 7 summoned all the men of Israel and said to the commanders of the troops who accompanied him, “Come here 8 and put your feet on the necks of these kings.” So they came up 9 and put their feet on their necks.
Joshua 23:13
Context23:13 know for certain that the Lord our God will no longer drive out these nations from before you. They will trap and ensnare you; 10 they will be a whip that tears 11 your sides and thorns that blind 12 your eyes until you disappear 13 from this good land the Lord your God gave you.

3 tn Heb “and they saw, and look.” The Hebrew term הִנֵּה (hinneh, “look”) draws attention to the scene and invites the audience to view the events from the perspective of the men of Ai.
4 tn Heb “and there was not in them hands to flee here or there.” The Hebrew term יָדַיִם (yadayim, “hands”) is idiomatic for “strength.”
