Joshua 3:3

Context
3:3 and commanded the people: “When you see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God 1  being carried by the Levitical priests, you must leave here 2  and walk 3  behind it.

Joshua 3:17

Context
3:17 The priests carrying the ark of the covenant of the Lord stood firmly on dry ground in the middle of the Jordan. All Israel crossed over on dry ground until the entire nation was on the other side. 4 

Joshua 4:9

Context
4:9 Joshua also set up twelve stones 5  in the middle of the Jordan in the very place where the priests carrying the ark of the covenant stood. They remain there to this very day.

Joshua 6:6

Context

6:6 So Joshua son of Nun summoned the priests and instructed them, “Pick up the ark of the covenant, and seven priests must carry seven rams’ horns in front of the ark of the Lord.”

Joshua 6:8

Context

6:8 When Joshua gave the army its orders, 6  the seven priests carrying the seven rams’ horns before the Lord moved ahead and blew the horns as the ark of the covenant of the Lord followed behind.

Joshua 7:15

Context
7:15 The one caught with the riches 7  must be burned up 8  along with all who belong to him, because he violated the Lord’s covenant and did such a disgraceful thing in Israel.’”

1 sn The ark of the covenant refers to the wooden chest that symbolized God’s presence among his covenant people.

2 tn Heb “set out from your place.”

3 tn Or “march.”

4 tn Heb “and all Israel was crossing over on dry ground until all the nation had finished crossing the Jordan.”

5 tn Here “also” has been supplied in the translation to make it clear (as indicated by v. 20) that these are not the same stones the men took from the river bed.

6 tn Heb “when Joshua spoke to the people.”

7 tn Heb “with what was set apart [to the Lord].”

8 tn Heb “burned with fire.”
