3:1 Bright and early the next morning Joshua and the Israelites left Shittim and came to the Jordan. 1  They camped there before crossing the river. 2

Joshua Sends Spies into the Land

2:1 Joshua son of Nun sent two spies out from Shittim secretly and instructed them: 3  “Find out what you can about the land, especially Jericho.” 4  They stopped at the house of a prostitute named Rahab and spent the night there. 5 

1 tn Heb “And Joshua arose early in the morning and he and the Israelites left Shittim and came to the Jordan.”

2 tn The words “the river,” though not in the Hebrew text, have been supplied in the translation for clarity.

3 tn Heb “Joshua, son of Nun, sent from Shittim two men, spies, secretly, saying.”

4 tn Heb “go, see the land, and Jericho.”
