Joshua 4:23

Context
4:23 For the Lord your God dried up the water of the Jordan before you while you crossed over. It was just like when the Lord your God dried up the Red Sea before us while we crossed it. 4

Joshua 7:25

Joshua 17:4

Context
17:4 They went before Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun, and the leaders and said, “The Lord told Moses to assign us land among our relatives.” 7  So Joshua 8  assigned them land among their uncles, as the Lord had commanded. 9

If we have rebelled or disobeyed the Lord, 12  don’t spare us 13  today! 22:23 If we have built 14  an altar for ourselves to turn back from following the Lord by making 15  burnt sacrifices and grain offerings on it, or by offering 16  tokens of peace 17  on it, the Lord himself will punish us. 18

Joshua 22:25

Context
22:25 The Lord made the Jordan a boundary between us and you Reubenites and Gadites. You have no right to worship the Lord.’ 19  In this way your descendants might cause our descendants to stop obeying 20  the Lord.

Joshua 24:18

Context
24:18 The Lord drove out from before us all the nations, including the Amorites who lived in the land. So we too will worship 21  the Lord, for he is our God!”

Joshua 24:27

Context
24:27 Joshua said to all the people, “Look, this stone will be a witness against you, for it has heard everything the Lord said to us. 22  It will be a witness against you if 23  you deny your God.”

1 tn Heb “Look! We are about to enter the land.”

2 tn Heb “the cord of this red thread.”

3 tn Heb “and your father and your mother and your brothers and all the house of your father gather to yourself to the house.”

4 tn Heb “just as the Lord your God did to the Red Sea when he dried [it] up before us while we crossed over.”

5 tn Or “trouble.” The word is “achor” in Hebrew (also in the following clause).

6 tc Heb “and they burned them with fire and they stoned them with stones.” These words are somewhat parenthetical in nature and are omitted in the LXX; they may represent a later scribal addition.

7 tn Heb “The Lord commanded Moses to assign to us an inheritance in the midst of our brothers.” Since Zelophehad had no sons, “brothers” must refer to their uncles, as the next sentence makes clear.

8 tn Heb “he.” The referent is probably Joshua, although Eleazar is mentioned first in the preceding list.

9 tn Heb “and he assigned to them in accordance with the mouth [i.e., command] of the Lord an inheritance in the midst of the brothers of their father.”

10 sn Israel’s God is here identified with three names: (1) אֵל (’el), “El” (or “God”); (2) אֱלֹהִים (’elohim), “Elohim” (or “God”), and (3) יְהוָה (yÿhvah), “Yahweh” (or “the Lord”). The name אֵל (’el, “El”) is often compounded with titles, for example, El Elyon, “God Most High.”

11 tn Heb “he knows.”

12 tn Heb “if in rebellion or if in unfaithfulness against the Lord.”

13 tn Heb “do not save us.” The verb form is singular, being addressed to either collective Israel or the Lord himself. The LXX translates in the third person.

14 tn Heb “by building.” The prepositional phrase may be subordinated to what precedes, “if in unfaithfulness…by building.”

15 tn Heb “or if to offer up.”

16 tn Heb “or if to make.”

17 tn Or “peace offerings.”

18 tn Heb “the Lord, he will seek.” Perhaps this is a self-imprecation in an oath, “may the Lord himself punish us.”

19 tn Heb “You have no portion in the Lord.”

20 tn Heb “fearing.”

21 tn Or “will serve.”

22 tn Heb “all the words of the Lord which he spoke with us.”

23 tn Or “lest,” “so that you might not.”
