Joshua 1:7

Context
1:7 Make sure you are 1  very strong and brave! Carefully obey 2  all the law my servant Moses charged you to keep! 3  Do not swerve from it to the right or to the left, so that you may be successful 4  in all you do. 5

Joshua 10:39

Context
10:39 They 6  captured it, its king, and all its surrounding cities and put the sword to them. They annihilated everyone who lived there; they 7  left no survivors. They 8  did to Debir and its king what they 9  had done to Libnah and its king and to Hebron. 10

Joshua 23:14

Context

23:14 “Look, today I am about to die. 11  You know with all your heart and being 12  that not even one of all the faithful promises the Lord your God made to you is left unfulfilled; every one was realized – not one promise is unfulfilled! 13

1 tn Or “Only be.”

2 tn Heb “so you can be careful to do.” The use of the infinitive לִשְׁמֹר (lishmor, “to keep”) after the imperatives suggests that strength and bravery will be necessary for obedience. Another option is to take the form לִשְׁמֹר as a vocative lamed (ל) with imperative (see Isa 38:20 for an example of this construction), which could be translated, “Indeed, be careful!”

3 tn Heb “commanded you.”

4 tn Heb “be wise,” but the word can mean “be successful” by metonymy.

5 tn Heb “in all which you go.”

6 tn Heb “He”; the implied subject may be Israel, or Joshua (as the commanding general of the army).

7 tn Heb “he”; the implied subject may be Israel, or Joshua (as the commanding general of the army).

8 tn Heb “He”; the implied subject may be Israel, or Joshua (as the commanding general of the army).

9 tn Heb “he”; the implied subject may be Israel, or Joshua (as the commanding general of the army).

10 tn Heb “as he did to Hebron, so he did to Debir and its king, and as he did to Libnah and its king.” The clauses have been rearranged in the translation for stylistic reasons.

11 tn Heb “go the way of all the earth.”

12 tn Or “soul.”

13 tn Heb “one word from all these words which the Lord your God spoke to you has not fallen, the whole has come to pass for you, one word from it has not fallen.”
