Context11:21 At that time Joshua attacked and eliminated the Anakites from the hill country 1 – from Hebron, Debir, Anab, and all the hill country of Judah and Israel. 2 Joshua annihilated them and their cities. 11:22 No Anakites were left in Israelite territory, though some remained in Gaza, Gath, and Ashdod.
Joshua 14:12
Context14:12 Now, assign me this hill country which the Lord promised me at that time! No doubt you heard at that time that the Anakites live there in large, fortified cities. 3 But, assuming the Lord is with me, I will conquer 4 them, as the Lord promised.”
Joshua 14:15
Context14:15 (Hebron used to be called Kiriath Arba. Arba was a famous Anakite. 5 ) Then the land was free of war.
Joshua 15:13-14
Context15:13 Caleb son of Jephunneh was assigned Kiriath Arba (that is Hebron) within the tribe of Judah, according to the Lord’s instructions to Joshua. (Arba was the father of Anak.) 6 15:14 Caleb drove out 7 from there three Anakites – Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai, descendants of Anak.

2 tn Heb “and from all the hill country of Israel.”
3 tn Heb “are there and large, fortified cities.”
4 tn Or “will dispossess.”
5 tn Heb “And he was the great man among the Anakites.”
