• [Joh 8:58] Ere The Blue Heav’ns Were Stretched Abroad

  Ere the blue heav’ns were stretched abroad, From everlasting was the Word: With God He was; the Word was God, And must divinely be adored. By His own power were all things made; By Him supported all things stand; He is the whole creation’s Head, And angels fly at His command. Ere sin was born, or Satan fell, He led the host of morning stars: Thy generation who can tell, Or count the numbers of Thy years? But lo! He leaves those heav’nly forms, The Word descends and dwells in clay, That He may hold converse with worms, Dressed in such feeble flesh as they. Mortals with joy beheld His face, Th’ eternal Father’s only Son; How full of truth! how full of grace! When through His eyes the Godhead shone. Archangels leave their high abode To learn new mysteries here, and tell The loves of our descending God, The glories of Immanuel.

  Life of ages, richly poured, Love of God, unspent and free, Flowing in the prophet’s word, And the people’s liberty. Never was to chosen race That unstinted tide confined Thine is every time and place, Fountain sweet of heart and mind. Breathing in the thinker’s creed, Pulsing in the hero’s blood, Nerving noblest thought and deed, Fresh’ning time with truth and good. Consecrating art and song, Holy book and pilgrim way, Quelling strife and tyrant wrong, Widening freedom’s sacred sway.

  O Thou, the eternal Son of God, The Lamb, for sinners slain, We worship, while Thy head is bowed In agony and pain. None tread with Thee the holy place; Thou sufferest alone; Thine is the perfect sacrifice Which only can atone. Thou great High Priest, Thy glory robes Today are set aside; And human sorrows, Son of Man, Thy Godhead seem to hide. The cross is sharp, but in Thy woe This is the lightest part; Our sin it is which pierces Thee, And breaks Thy sacred heart. Who love Thee most, at Thy dear cross, Will truest, Lord, abide; Make Thou that cross our only hope, O Jesus crucified.

• [Joh 11:11] If Death My Friend And Me Divide

  If death my friend and me divide, Thou dost not, Lord, my sorrow chide, Or frown my tears to see; Restrained from passionate excess, Thou bidst me mourn in calm distress For them that rest in Thee. I feel a strong immortal hope, Which bears my mournful spirit up Beneath its mountain load; Redeemed from death, and grief, and pain, I soon shall find my friend again Within the arms of God. Pass a few fleeting moments more And death the blessing shall restore Which death has snatched away; For me Thou wilt the summons send, And give me back my parted friend In that eternal day.

John 13:7

• [Joh 13:7] God Moves In A Mysterious Way

  God moves in a mysterious way His wonders to perform; He plants His footsteps in the sea And rides upon the storm. Deep in unfathomable mines Of never failing skill He treasures up His bright designs And works His sovereign will. Ye fearful saints, fresh courage take; The clouds ye so much dread Are big with mercy and shall break In blessings on your head. Judge not the Lord by feeble sense, But trust Him for His grace; Behind a frowning providence He hides a smiling face. His purposes will ripen fast, Unfolding every hour; The bud may have a bitter taste, But sweet will be the flower. Blind unbelief is sure to err And scan His work in vain; God is His own interpreter, And He will make it plain.

• [Joh 13:7] We’ll Understand It Better By And By

  We are tossed and driv’n on the restless sea of time; Somber skies and howling tempests oft succeed a bright sunshine; In that land of perfect day, when the mists have rolled away, We will understand it better by and by. Refrain By and by, when the morning comes, When the saints of God are gathered home, We’ll tell the story how we’ve overcome, For we’ll understand it better by and by. We are often destitute of the things that life demands, Want of food and want of shelter, thirsty hills and barren lands; We are trusting in the Lord, and according to God’s Word, We will understand it better by and by.
