  Holy Father, great Creator, Source of mercy, love and peace, Look upon the Mediator, Clothe us with His righteousness; Heav’nly Father, heav’nly Father, Through the Savior hear and bless! Holy Jesus, Lord of glory, Whom angelic hosts proclaim, While we hear Thy wondrous story, Meet and worship in Thy Name, Dear Redeemer, dear Redeemer, In our hearts Thy peace proclaim.   Lord, keep us steadfast in Thy Word; Curb those who fain by craft and sword Would wrest the kingdom from Thy Son And set at naught all He hath done.   Lord, who the night You were betrayed did pray That all Your Church might be forever one; Help us at every Eucharist to say With willing heart and soul, “Your will be done.” That we may all one bread, one body be Through this, Your sacrament of unity. For all Your Church on earth, we intercede; Lord, make our sad divisions soon to cease; Draw us all closer, each to each, we plead, By drawing all to You, O Prince of Peace; So may we all one bread, one body be, Through this blest sacrament of unity. And hear our prayer for wanderers from Your fold; Restore them, too, Good Shepherd of the sheep, Back to the faith your saints confessed of old, And to the Church still pledged that faith to keep. Soon may we all one bread, one body be, Through this blest sacrament of unity. So, Lord, at length when sacraments shall cease, May we be one with all your Church above— One with Your saints in one unbroken peace, One as Your bride in one unbounded love; More blessèd still, in peace and love to be One with the Trinity in unity.

  Son of God, eternal Savior, Source of life and truth and grace, Son of Man, whose birth incarnate Hallows all our human race, Thou, our Head Who, throned in glory, For Thine own dost ever plead, Fill us with Thy love and pity; Heal our wrongs, and help our need. Bind us all as one together In Thy Church’s sacred fold, Weak and healthy, poor and wealthy, Sad and joyful, young and old. Is there want, or pain, or sorrow? Make us all the burden share. Are there spirits crushed and broken? Teach us, Lord, to soothe their care. As Thou, Lord, hast lived for others, So may we for others live; Freely have Thy gifts been granted, Freely may Thy servants give. Thine the gold and Thine the silver, Thine the wealth of land and sea, We but stewards of Thy bounty, Held in solemn trust for Thee. Come, O Christ, and reign among us, King of love, and Prince of peace, Hush the storm of strife and passion, Bid its cruel discords cease: By Thy patient years of toiling, By Thy silent hours of pain, Quench our fevered thirst of pleasure, Shame our selfish greed of gain.   How vain the cruel Herod’s fear, When told that Christ the King is near! He takes not earthly realms away, Who gives the realms that ne’er decay. The Eastern sages saw from far And followed on His guiding star; By light their way to Light they trod, And by their gifts confessed their God. Within the Jordan’s sacred flood The heavenly Lamb in meekness stood, That He to Whom no sin was known, Might cleanse His people from their own. And oh, what miracle divine, When water reddened into wine! He spake the word, and forth it flowed In streams that nature ne’er bestowed. All glory, Jesu, be to Thee For this Thy glad Epiphany: Whom with the Father we adore And Holy Ghost forevermore.

  Why, Herod, unrelenting foe, Doth the Lord’s coming move thee so? He doth no earthly kingdom seek Who brings His kingdom to the meek. Led by the star, the wise men find The Light that lightens all mankind; The threefold presents which they bring Declare Him God, and Man, and King. In Jordan’s sacred waters stood The meek and heavenly Lamb of God, And He who did no sin, thereby Cleansed us from all iniquity! And now a miracle was done: Six water pots stood there of stone; Christ spake the word with power divine, The water reddened into wine. All honor unto Christ be paid, Pure offspring of the holy maid, With Father and with Holy Ghost, Till time in endless time be lost.

  Why, impious Herod, shouldst thou fear Because the Christ is come so near? He Who doth heavenly kingdoms grant Thine earthly realm can never want. Lo, sages from the East are gone To where the star hath newly shone: Led on by light to Light they press, And by their gifts their God confess. The Lamb of God is manifest Again in Jordan’s water blest, And He Who sin had never known By washing hath our sins undone. Yet He that ruleth everything Can change the nature of the spring, And gives at Cana this for sign— The water reddens into wine.
