• [Joh 1:43] Behold, The Master Passeth By

  Behold, the Master passeth by! O seest thou not His pleading eye? With low sad voice He calleth thee, “Leave this vain world, and follow Me.” O soul, bowed down with harrowing care, Hast thou no thought for Heaven to spare? From earthly toils lift up thine eye; Behold, the Master passeth by! One heard Him calling long ago, And straightway left all things below Counting his earthly gain as loss For Jesus and His blessèd cross. That “Follow Me” his faithful ear Seemed every day afresh to hear; Its echoes stirred his spirit still, And fired his hope, and nerved his will. God gently calls us every day: Why should we then our bliss delay? Thou, Lord, e’en now art calling me; I will leave all, and follow Thee.

  O I love to walk with Jesus Like the publicans of old, When He gathered them about Him And the blessèd tidings told; How He came to bring deliverance To the captives in distress, Take away our ev’ry burden, Giving perfect peace and rest. Refrain I will follow where He leadeth; I will pasture where He feedeth. I will follow all the way, Lord. I will follow Jesus ev’ry day. O I love to walk with Jesus Like the man of long ago Who had tarried by the wayside Near the gates of Jericho, Jesus heard his cry for mercy, Gave him back his sight that day, And immediately he followed Jesus all along the way. • [Joh 1:43] Light Of God Is Falling, The

  The light of God is falling, Upon life’s common way; The Master’s voice is calling, “Come, walk with Me today”; No duty can seem lowly To him who lives with Thee, And all of life grows holy, O Christ of Galilee! Who shares his life’s pure pleasures, And walks the honest road, Who trades with heaping measures, And lifts his brother’s load, Who turns the wrong down bluntly, And lends the right a hand, He dwells in God’s own country, He tills the Holy Land. Where human lives are thronging In toil and pain and sin, While cloistered hearts are longing To bring the kingdom in, O Christ, the elder Brother Of proud and beaten men, When they have found each other, The kingdom will come then! Thy ransomed host in glory, All souls that sin and pray, Turn toward the cross that bore Thee; “Behold the Man!” they say; And while Thy church is pleading For all who would do good, We hear Thy true voice leading Our song of brotherhood.

• [Joh 2:1] Lord, Who At Cana’s Wedding Feast

  Lord, who at Cana’s wedding feast Didst as a Guest appear, Thou dearer far than earthly guest, Vouchsafe Thy presence here. For holy Thou indeed dost prove The marriage vow to be, Proclaiming it a type of love Between the Church and Thee. This holy vow that man can make, The golden thread in life, The bond that none may dare to break, That bindeth man and wife, Which, blest by Thee, whate’er betide, No evil shall destroy, Through careworn days each care divides And doubles every joy. On those who now before Thee kneel, O Lord, Thy blessing pour, That each may wake the other’s zeal To love Thee more and more. Oh, grant them here in peace to live, In purity and love, And, this world leaving, to receive A crown of life above.

• [Joh 2:1] Since Jesus Freely Did Appear

  Since Jesus freely did appear To grace a marriage feast O Lord, we ask Thy presence here, To make a wedding Guest. Upon the bridal pair look down, Who now have plighted hands; Their union with Thy favor crown, And bless the nuptial bands. With gifts of grace their hearts endow, Of all rich dowries blest; Their substance bless, and peace bestow, To sweeten all the rest. In purest love their souls unite, That they with Christian care, May make domestic burdens light, By taking mutual share. As Isaac and Rebecca give A pattern chaste and kind; So may this new-met couple live In faithful friendship joined.

• [Joh 2:1] Wedding Took Place, A

  A wedding took place in the village of Cana, And Jesus, His mother, and followers all came. The wine was exhausted, and Mary informed Him, “They have no more wine”—this would surely bring shame. “Dear woman,” He answered, “why do you involve Me? My time to be recognized has not yet come.” His mother then said to the servants there waiting, “Whatever He tells you, now let it be done.” Six water jars stood there for ritual washing, Each holding then full twenty gallons or more. He said to the servants, “Now fill them with water.” They filled them brimful; there was no room for more. Then Jesus instructed, “Take some to the master.” The water had turned into wine—none knew how. On tasting, the master exclaimed in amazement, “The choicest and best wine you’ve saved until now!” When Jesus turned water to wine there in Cana, This was the first miracle He’d ever done. His glory He thus did reveal to the people, And as a result, His disciples were won. Lord, may I be like them, believing You fully. And like the stone water jars, may I e’er be, Filled up to the brim with Your transforming Spirit. Reveal now Your glory to others through me.

John 12:12

• [Joh 12:12] Hosanna, Loud Hosanna

  Hosanna, loud hosanna, the little children sang; Through pillared court and temple the lovely anthem rang. To Jesus, who had blessed them close folded to His breast, The children sang their praises, the simplest and the best. From Olivet they followed mid an exultant crowd, The victor palm branch waving, and chanting clear and loud. The Lord of men and angels rode on in lowly state, Nor scorned that little children should on His bidding wait. “Hosanna in the highest!” that ancient song we sing, For Christ is our Redeemer, the Lord of heaven our King. O may we ever praise Him with heart and life and voice, And in His blissful presence eternally rejoice!

• [Joh 12:12] There Was A Time When Children Sang

  There was a time when children sang The Savior’s praise with sacred glee, And all the hills of Judah rang With their exulting jubilee. O to have joined their rapturous songs, And swelled their sweet hosannas high, And blessed Him with our feeble tongues As He, the Man of grief, went by! But Christ is now a glorious King, And angels in His presence bow; The humble songs that we can sing, O will He, can He, hear them now? He can, He will, He loves to hear The notes which loving children raise; Jesus, we come with trembling fear: O teach our hearts and tongues to praise! We join the hosts around Thy throne, Who once, like us, the desert trod; And thus we make their song our own, Hosanna to the Son of God!
