Job 20:9

Context

20:9 People 1  who had seen him will not see him again,

and the place where he was

will recognize him no longer.

Job 30:6

Job 31:25

Context

31:25 if I have rejoiced because of the extent of my wealth,

or because of the great wealth my hand had gained,

1 tn Heb “the eye that had seen him.” Here a part of the person (the eye, the instrument of vision) is put by metonymy for the entire person.

2 tn This use of the infinitive construct expresses that they were compelled to do something (see GKC 348-49 §114.h, k).

3 tn The adjectives followed by a partitive genitive take on the emphasis of a superlative: “in the most horrible of valleys” (see GKC 431 §133.h).
