Jeremiah 6:25

Context

6:25 Do not go out into the countryside.

Do not travel on the roads.

For the enemy is there with sword in hand. 1 

They are spreading terror everywhere.” 2 

Jeremiah 25:17

Context

25:17 So I took the cup from the Lord’s hand. I made all the nations to whom he sent me drink the wine of his wrath. 3 

Jeremiah 32:28

Context
32:28 Therefore I, the Lord, say: 4  ‘I will indeed hand 5  this city over to King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon and the Babylonian army. 6  They will capture it.

Jeremiah 34:20

Context
34:20 I will hand them over to their enemies who want to kill them. Their dead bodies will become food for the birds and the wild animals. 7 

1 tn Heb “For the enemy has a sword.”

2 tn Heb “Terror is all around!”

3 tn The words “the wine of his wrath” are not in the text but are implicit in the metaphor (see vv. 15-16). They are supplied in the translation for clarity.

4 tn Heb “Thus says the Lord.” However, the speech has already been introduced as first person. So the first person style has been retained for smoother narrative style.

5 tn Heb “Behold, I will give this city into the hand of…”

6 tn Heb “The Chaldeans.” See the study note on 21:4 for further explanation.

7 sn See this same phrase in Jer 7:33; 16:4; 19:7.
