9:15 The thornbush said to the trees, ‘If you really want to choose 1  me as your king, then come along, find safety under my branches! 2  Otherwise 3  may fire blaze from the thornbush and consume the cedars of Lebanon!’

Judges 20:48

20:48 The Israelites returned to the Benjaminite towns 5  and put the sword to them. They wiped out the cities, 6  the animals, and everything they could find. They set fire to every city in their path. 7

21:7 How can we find wives for those who are left? 8  After all, we took an oath in the Lord’s name not to give them our daughters as wives.”

6 tc The translation is based on the reading מֵעִיר מְתִים (meir mÿtim, “from a city of men,” i.e., “an inhabited city”), rather than the reading מֵעִיר מְתֹם (meir mÿtom, “from a city of soundness”) found in the Leningrad Codex (L).

7 tn Heb “Also all the cities that were found they set on fire.”

8 tn Heb “What should we do for them, for the remaining ones, concerning wives?”
