Judges 7:21

Context
7:21 They stood in order 3  all around the camp. The whole army ran away; they shouted as they scrambled away. 4

Judges 8:11

Context
8:11 Gideon went up the road of the nomads 5  east of Nobah and Jogbehah and ambushed the surprised army. 6

1 tn Or “certainly.”

2 tn Heb “You will strike down Midian as one man.” The idiom “as one man” emphasizes the collective unity of a group (see Judg 20:8, 11). Here it may carry the force, “as if they were just one man.”

3 tn Heb “each in his place.”

4 tn Or “fled.”

5 tn Heb “the ones living in tents.”

6 tn Heb “and attacked the army, while the army was secure.” The Hebrew term בֶטַח (vetakh, “secure”) probably means the army was undefended (see R. G. Boling, Judges [AB], 156), not suspecting an attack at that time and place.
