4:11 Now Heber the Kenite had moved away 1  from the Kenites, the descendants of Hobab, Moses’ father-in-law. He lived 2  near the great tree in Zaanannim near Kedesh.

Gideon Reduces the Ranks

7:1 Jerub-Baal (that is, Gideon) and his men 3  got up the next morning and camped near the spring of Harod. 4  The Midianites 5  were camped north of them near the hill of Moreh in the valley.

1 tn Or “separated.”

2 tn Heb “pitched his tent.”

3 tn Heb “and all the people who were with him.”

4 sn The name Harod means, ironically, “trembling.”

5 tn Heb “Midian.” The LXX reads “and Amalek” (cf. v. 12; 6:33).
