The End of an Era

2:6 When Joshua dismissed 1  the people, the Israelites went to their allotted portions of territory, 2  intending to take possession of the land.

Judges 11:20

Context
11:20 But Sihon did not trust Israel to pass through his territory. He 3  assembled his whole army, 4  camped in Jahaz, and fought with Israel.

Judges 20:4

Context
20:4 The Levite, 5  the husband of the murdered woman, spoke up, “I and my concubine stopped in 6  Gibeah in the territory of Benjamin 7  to spend the night.

2 tn Heb “the Israelites went each to his inheritance.”

3 tn Heb “Sihon.” The proper name (“Sihon”) has been replaced in the translation by the pronoun (“he”) because of English style; a repetition of the proper name here would be redundant in English.

4 tn Heb “all his people” (also in the following verse).

5 tn Heb “The man, the Levite.”

6 tn Heb “came to.”

7 tn Heb “which belongs to Benjamin.”
