  Not for our sins alone Thy mercy, Lord, we sue; Let fall Thy pitying glance On our devotions, too, What we have done for Thee, And what we think to do. The holiest hours we spend In prayer upon our knees, The times when most we deem The songs of praise will please, Thou Searcher of all hearts, Forgiveness pour on these. And all the gifts we bring, And all the vows we make, And all the acts of love We plan for Thy dear sake, Into Thy pardoning thought, O God of mercy, take. And most, when we, Thy flock, Before Thine altar bend, And strange, bewildering thoughts With those sweet moments blend, By Him Whose death we plead, Good Lord, Thy help extend. Bow down Thine ear and hear! Open Thine eyes and see! Our very love is shame, And we must come to Thee To make it of Thy grace What Thou wouldst have it be.

  In the still air the music lies unheard; In the rough marble beauty hides unseen. To make the music and the beauty needs The Master’s touch, the Sculptor’s chisel keen. Great Master, touch us with Thy skillful hands; Let not the music that is in us die; Great Sculptor, hew and polish us, nor let Hidden and lost, Thy form within us lie. Spare not the stroke; do with us what Thou wilt; Let there be naught unfinished, broken, marred; Complete Thy purpose that we may become Thy perfect image—Thou our God and Lord.

  Alleluia! sing to Jesus! His the scepter, His the throne. Alleluia! His the triumph, His the victory alone. Hark! the songs of peaceful Zion thunder like a mighty flood. Jesus out of every nation has redeemed us by His blood. Alleluia! not as orphans are we left in sorrow now; Alleluia! He is near us, faith believes, nor questions how; Though the cloud from sight received Him when the forty days were o’er Shall our hearts forget His promise, “I am with you evermore”? Alleluia! bread of angels, Thou on earth our food, our stay; Alleluia! here the sinful flee to Thee from day to day: Intercessor, Friend of sinners, Earth’s Redeemer, plead for me, Where the songs of all the sinless sweep across the crystal sea. King eternal, Thee the Lord of lords we own; Alleluia! born of Mary, Earth Thy footstool, Heav’n Thy throne: Thou within the veil hast entered, robed in flesh our great High Priest; Thou on earth both priest and victim in the Eucharistic feast.

  Shout, for the blessèd Jesus reigns; Through distant lands His triumphs spread; And sinners, freed from endless pains, Own Him their Savior and their Head. He calls His chosen from afar; They all at Zion’s gates arrive; Those who were dead in sin before By sovereign grace are made alive.
