Isaiah 50:7
Context50:7 But the sovereign Lord helps me,
so I am not humiliated.
For that reason I am steadfastly resolved; 1
I know I will not be put to shame.
Isaiah 50:9
Context50:9 Look, the sovereign Lord helps me.
Who dares to condemn me?
Look, all of them will wear out like clothes;
a moth will eat away at them.
Isaiah 31:2-3
Context31:2 Yet he too is wise 2 and he will bring disaster;
he does not retract his decree. 3
He will attack the wicked nation, 4
and the nation that helps 5 those who commit sin. 6
31:3 The Egyptians are mere humans, not God;
their horses are made of flesh, not spirit.
The Lord will strike with 7 his hand;
the one who helps will stumble
and the one being helped will fall.
Together they will perish. 8
Isaiah 44:2
Context44:2 This is what the Lord, the one who made you, says –
the one who formed you in the womb and helps you:
“Don’t be afraid, my servant Jacob,
Jeshurun, 9 whom I have chosen!
1 tn Heb “Therefore I set my face like flint.”
2 sn This statement appears to have a sarcastic tone. The royal advisers who are advocating an alliance with Egypt think they are wise, but the Lord possesses wisdom as well and will thwart their efforts.
3 tn Heb “and he does not turn aside [i.e., “retract”] his words”; NIV “does not take back his words.”
4 tn Heb “and he will arise against the house of the wicked.”
5 sn That is, Egypt.
6 tn Heb “and against the help of the doers of sin.”
7 tn Heb “will extend”; KJV, ASV, NASB, NCV “stretch out.”
8 tn Heb “together all of them will come to an end.”
9 sn Jeshurun is a poetic name for Israel; it occurs here and in Deut 32:15; 33:5, 26.
