Isaiah 42:8

Context
The Lord Intervenes

42:8 I am the Lord! That is my name!

I will not share my glory with anyone else,

or the praise due me with idols.

Isaiah 47:3

Context

47:3 Let your private parts be exposed!

Your genitals will be on display! 1

I will get revenge;

I will not have pity on anyone,” 2

Isaiah 48:11

Context

48:11 For my sake alone 3  I will act,

for how can I allow my name to be defiled? 4

I will not share my glory with anyone else! 5

1 tn Heb “Your shame will be seen.” In this context “shame” is a euphemism referring to the genitals.

2 tn Heb “I will not meet a man.” The verb פָּגַע (pagah) apparently carries the nuance “meet with kindness” here (cf. 64:5, and see BDB 803 s.v. Qal.2).

3 tn The Hebrew text repeats לְמַעֲנִי (lÿmaani, “for my sake”) for emphasis.

4 tn The Hebrew text reads literally, “for how can it be defiled?” The subject of the verb is probably “name” (v. 9).

5 sn See 42:8.
