Isaiah 37:11

Context
37:11 Certainly you have heard how the kings of Assyria have annihilated all lands. 1  Do you really think you will be rescued? 2

Isaiah 47:7

Context

47:7 You said,

‘I will rule forever as permanent queen!’ 3

You did not think about these things; 4

you did not consider how it would turn out. 5

Isaiah 65:17

Context

65:17 For look, I am ready to create

new heavens and a new earth! 6

The former ones 7  will not be remembered;

no one will think about them anymore. 8

1 tn Heb “Look, you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all the lands, annihilating them.”

2 tn Heb “and will you be rescued?” The rhetorical question expects the answer, “No, of course not!”

3 tn Heb “Forever I [will be] permanent queen”; NIV “the eternal queen”; CEV “queen forever.”

4 tn Heb “you did not set these things upon your heart [or “mind”].”

5 tn Heb “you did not remember its outcome”; NAB “you disregarded their outcome.”

6 sn This hyperbolic statement likens the coming transformation of Jerusalem (see vv. 18-19) to a new creation of the cosmos.

7 tn Or perhaps, “the former things” (so ASV, NASB, NIV, NRSV); TEV “The events of the past.”

8 tn Heb “and they will not come up on the mind.”
