tn Hebrew קִפּוֹז (qippoz) occurs only here; the precise meaning of the word is uncertain.

tn For this proposed meaning for Hebrew מָלַט (malat), see HALOT 589 s.v. I מלט.

tn Heb “and brood [over them] in her shadow.”

tn The precise meaning of דַּיָּה (dayyah) is uncertain, though the term appears to refer to some type of bird of prey, perhaps a vulture.

tn Heb “So they will be to you”; NIV “That is all they can do for you.”

tn Heb “that for which you toiled, your traders from your youth.” The omen readers and star gazers are likened to merchants with whom Babylon has had an ongoing economic relationship.

tn Heb “each to his own side, they err.”

tn Heb “Let us stand together!”

tn Heb “Who is the master of my judgment?”

tn Heb “let him approach me”; NAB, NIV “Let him confront me.”

sn The phrase never full alludes to the greed of the leaders.

tn Heb “for his gain from his end.”
