Context

Isaiah 63:8

Context

63:8 He said, “Certainly they will be my people,

children who are not disloyal.” 4

He became their deliverer.

1 tn Heb “for their tongue and their deeds [are] to the Lord.”

2 tn Heb “to rebel [against] the eyes of his majesty.” The word כָּבוֹד (kavod) frequently refers to the Lord’s royal splendor that is an outward manifestation of his authority as king.

3 tn Heb “Indeed (or perhaps “for”) destruction and what is decreed the sovereign master, the Lord who commands armies, is about to accomplish in the middle of all the land.” The phrase כָלָא וְנֶחֱרָצָה (khalavenekheratsah, “destruction and what is decreed”) is a hendiadys; the two terms express one idea, with the second qualifying the first.

4 tn Heb “children [who] do not act deceitfully.” Here the verb refers to covenantal loyalty.
