Isaiah 29:18

Context

29:18 At that time 1  the deaf will be able to hear words read from a scroll,

and the eyes of the blind will be able to see through deep darkness. 2

Isaiah 50:10

Context

50:10 Who among you fears the Lord?

Who obeys 3  his servant?

Whoever walks in deep darkness, 4

without light,

should trust in the name of the Lord

and rely on his God.

1 tn Or “In that day” (KJV).

2 tn Heb “and out of gloom and darkness the eyes of the blind will see.”

sn Perhaps this depicts the spiritual transformation of the once spiritually insensitive nation (see vv. 10-12, cf. also 6:9-10).

3 tn Heb “[who] listens to the voice of his servant?” The interrogative is understood by ellipsis (note the preceding line).

4 tn The plural indicates degree. Darkness may refer to exile and/or moral evil.
