But the Lord will vindicate me;

my God will reward me. 7

1 tn Heb “Therefore I will again do something amazing with these people, an amazing deed, an amazing thing.” This probably refers to the amazing transformation predicted in vv. 17-24, which will follow the purifying judgment implied in vv. 15-16.

2 tn Heb “the wisdom of their wise ones will perish, the discernment of their discerning ones will keep hidden.”

3 tn Heb “the men of your strife”; NASB “those who contend with you.”

4 tn Heb “like nothing”; NAB “come to nought.”

5 tn Or “said” (KJV, NASB, NIV, NRSV); NLT “I replied.”

6 tn Heb “for nothing and emptiness.” Synonyms are combined to emphasize the common idea.

7 tn Heb “But my justice is with the Lord, and my reward [or “wage”] with my God.”
