Isaiah 29:11

Context

29:11 To you this entire prophetic revelation 1  is like words in a sealed scroll. When they hand it to one who can read 2  and say, “Read this,” he responds, “I can’t, because it is sealed.”

Isaiah 29:18

Context

29:18 At that time 3  the deaf will be able to hear words read from a scroll,

and the eyes of the blind will be able to see through deep darkness. 4

Isaiah 59:4

Context

59:4 No one is concerned about justice; 5

no one sets forth his case truthfully.

They depend on false words 6  and tell lies;

they conceive of oppression 7

and give birth to sin.

1 tn Heb “vision” (so NASB, NIV, NRSV).

2 tn Heb “one who knows a/the scroll.”

3 tn Or “In that day” (KJV).

4 tn Heb “and out of gloom and darkness the eyes of the blind will see.”

sn Perhaps this depicts the spiritual transformation of the once spiritually insensitive nation (see vv. 10-12, cf. also 6:9-10).

5 tn Heb “no one pleads with justice.”

6 tn Heb “nothing”; NAB “emptiness.”

7 tn Or “trouble” (NIV), or “harm.”
