Isaiah 28:27

Context

28:27 Certainly 1  caraway seed is not threshed with a sledge,

nor is the wheel of a cart rolled over cumin seed. 2 

Certainly caraway seed is beaten with a stick,

and cumin seed with a flail.

Isaiah 41:15

Context

41:15 “Look, I am making you like 3  a sharp threshing sledge,

new and double-edged. 4 

You will thresh the mountains and crush them;

you will make the hills like straw. 5 

1 tn Or “For” (KJV, ASV, NASB).

2 sn Both of these seeds are too small to use the ordinary threshing techniques.

3 tn Heb “into” (so NIV); ASV “have made thee to be.”

4 tn Heb “owner of two-mouths,” i.e., double-edged.

5 sn The mountains and hills symbolize hostile nations that are obstacles to Israel’s restoration.
