Isaiah 28:12

Context

28:12 In the past he said to them, 1

“This is where security can be found.

Provide security for the one who is exhausted!

This is where rest can be found.” 2

But they refused to listen.

Isaiah 51:8

Context

51:8 For a moth will eat away at them like clothes;

a clothes moth will devour them like wool.

But the vindication I provide 3  will be permanent;

the deliverance I give will last.”

Isaiah 55:10

Context

55:10 4 The rain and snow fall from the sky

and do not return,

but instead water the earth

and make it produce and yield crops,

and provide seed for the planter and food for those who must eat.

Isaiah 58:7

Context

58:7 I want you 5  to share your food with the hungry

and to provide shelter for homeless, oppressed people. 6

When you see someone naked, clothe him!

Don’t turn your back on your own flesh and blood! 7

1 tn Heb “who said to them.”

2 sn This message encapsulates the Lord’s invitation to his people to find security in his protection and blessing.

3 tn Heb “my vindication”; many English versions “my righteousness”; NRSV, TEV “my deliverance”; CEV “my victory.”

4 tn This verse begins in the Hebrew text with כִּי כַּאֲשֶׁר (ki kaasher, “for, just as”), which is completed by כֵּן (ken, “so, in the same way”) at the beginning of v. 11. For stylistic reasons, this lengthy sentence is divided up into separate sentences in the translation.

5 tn Heb “Is it not?” The rhetorical question here expects a positive answer, “It is!”

6 tn Heb “and afflicted [ones], homeless [ones] you should bring [into] a house.” On the meaning of מְרוּדִים (mÿrudim, “homeless”) see HALOT 633 s.v. *מָרוּד.

7 tn Heb “and from your flesh do not hide yourself.”
