Isaiah 27:3

Context

27:3 I, the Lord, protect it; 1

I water it regularly. 2

I guard it night and day,

so no one can harm it. 3

Isaiah 34:15

Context

34:15 Owls 4  will make nests and lay eggs 5  there;

they will hatch them and protect them. 6

Yes, hawks 7  will gather there,

each with its mate.

1 tn Heb “her.” Apparently “vineyard” is the antecedent, though normally this noun is understood as masculine (see Lev 25:3, however).

2 tn Or perhaps, “constantly.” Heb “by moments.”

3 tn Heb “lest [someone] visit [harm] upon it, night and day I guard it.”

4 tn Hebrew קִפּוֹז (qippoz) occurs only here; the precise meaning of the word is uncertain.

5 tn For this proposed meaning for Hebrew מָלַט (malat), see HALOT 589 s.v. I מלט.

6 tn Heb “and brood [over them] in her shadow.”

7 tn The precise meaning of דַּיָּה (dayyah) is uncertain, though the term appears to refer to some type of bird of prey, perhaps a vulture.
