  Lord, it belongs not to my care Whether I die or live; To love and serve Thee is my share, And this Thy grace must give. If life be long, I will be glad, That I may long obey; If short, yet why should I be sad To welcome endless day? Christ leads me through no darker rooms Than He went through before; He that unto God’s kingdom comes Must enter by this door. Come, Lord, when grace hath made me meet Thy blessèd face to see; For if Thy work on earth be sweet What will Thy glory be! Then I shall end my sad complaints And weary sinful days, And join with the triumphant saints That sing my Savior’s praise. My knowledge of that life is small, The eye of faith is dim; But ’tis enough that Christ knows all, And I shall be with Him.

  Mighty Rock, whose tow’ring form Looks above the frowning storm, Rock amid the desert waste, To Thy shadow now I haste.   O God, the Rock of Ages, Who evermore hast been, What time the tempest rages, Our dwelling place serene: Before Thy first creations, O Lord, the same as now, To endless generations, The everlasting Thou. Our years are like the shadows On sunny hills that lie, Or grasses in the meadows That blossom but to die; A sleep, a dream, a story By strangers quickly told An unremaining glory Of things that soon are old. O Thou, who dost not slumber, Whose light grows never pale, Teach us aright to number Our years before they fail; On us Thy mercy lighten, On us Thy goodness rest, And let Thy Spirit brighten The hearts Thyself hast blessed. Lord, crown our faith’s endeavor With beauty and with grace, Till, clothed in light forever, We see Thee face to face: A joy no language measures, A fountain brimming o’er, An endless flow of pleasures, An ocean without shore.

  Rock of Ages, let our song Praise Thy saving power; Thou, amidst the raging foes, Wast our sheltering tower. Furious they assailed us, But Thine arm availed us, And Thy Word Broke their sword When our own strength failed us. Kindling new the holy lamps, Priests, approved in suffering, Purified the nation’s shrine, Brought to God their offering. And His courts surrounding Hear, in joy abounding, Happy throngs, Singing songs With a mighty sounding. Children of the martyr race, Whether free or fettered, Wake the echoes of the songs Where ye may be scattered.
