Isaiah 22:18
Context22:18 He will wind you up tightly into a ball
and throw you into a wide, open land. 1
There you will die,
and there with you will be your impressive chariots, 2
which bring disgrace to the house of your master. 3
Isaiah 43:17
Context43:17 the one who led chariots and horses to destruction, 4
together with a mighty army.
They fell down, 5 never to rise again;
they were extinguished, put out like a burning wick:
1 tn Heb “and he will tightly [or “surely”] wind you [with] winding like a ball, to a land broad of hands [i.e., “sides”].”
2 tn Heb “and there the chariots of your splendor.”
3 sn Apparently the reference to chariots alludes to Shebna’s excessive pride, which in turn brings disgrace to the royal family.
4 tn Heb “led out chariots and horses.” The words “to destruction” are supplied in the translation for clarification. The verse refers to the destruction of the Egyptians at the Red Sea.
5 tn Heb “lay down”; NAB “lie prostrate together”; CEV “lie dead”; NRSV “they lie down.”
