Isaiah 21:6-7

Context

21:6 For this is what the sovereign master 1  has told me:

“Go, post a guard!

He must report what he sees.

21:7 When he sees chariots,

teams of horses, 2 

riders on donkeys,

riders on camels,

he must be alert,

very alert.”

Isaiah 40:23

Context

40:23 He is the one who reduces rulers to nothing;

he makes the earth’s leaders insignificant.

Isaiah 40:29

Context

40:29 He gives strength to those who are tired;

to the ones who lack power, he gives renewed energy.

Isaiah 51:14

Context

51:14 The one who suffers 3  will soon be released;

he will not die in prison, 4 

he will not go hungry. 5 

Isaiah 62:7

Context

62:7 Don’t allow him to rest until he reestablishes Jerusalem, 6 

until he makes Jerusalem the pride 7  of the earth.

Isaiah 63:8

Context

63:8 He said, “Certainly they will be my people,

children who are not disloyal.” 8 

He became their deliverer.

1 tn The Hebrew term translated “sovereign master” here and in vv. 8, 16 is אֲדֹנָי (’adonay).

2 tn Or “a pair of horsemen.”

3 tn Heb “who is stooped over” (under a burden).

4 tn Heb “the pit” (so KJV); ASV, NAB “die and go down into the pit”; NASB, NIV “dungeon”; NCV “prison.”

5 tn Heb “he will not lack his bread.”

6 tn “Jerusalem” is supplied in the translation for stylistic reasons; note the following line.

7 tn Heb “[the object of] praise.”

8 tn Heb “children [who] do not act deceitfully.” Here the verb refers to covenantal loyalty.
